Rag Man

Picture of the DayRag Man
Acrylic on patterned bandana, 14" x 16"
One of the problems with looking at art online is that colors can be so easily modified or altered through Photoshop and similar programs. For example, I have a couple versions of this image in digital form but only one can be accurate in real life. Integrity requires that artists use the most accurate representations possible. All my giclee reproductions have been professionally scanned, and their online representations are intended to be the most accurate that can be achieved.

DC Black & White

Picture of the Day

DC Black & White

Latex on black foamcore, 16' x 24"

I have been testing some different materials as surfaces for current painting concepts. This past week I'd been working on a series of images based on Daniel Craig and this one came across as quite striking. I am always to some extent in awe at how three dimensional painted objects can sometimes be made to appear on two dimensional surfaces.

Bueno Americano

Picture of the Day Bueno Americano, No Bueno Tedeski
Acrylic on masonite, 24' x 36"

Today, April 25, is Liberation Day for the nation and peoples of Italy as the country celebrates the end of World War II. This feast of freedom was made possible by the arrival of Allied soldiers. Many Americans gave their lives to give Italy this gift. According to my father-in-law, the Italians lined the streets and were shouting, "Bueno Americano, No Bueno Tedeski" as the Americans passed through. I painted this image in honor of my father-in-law for who had spent three and a half years a long ways from home. His diaries and photos have become a book, titled, And There Shall Be Wars, currently available from Savage Press.

The True Measure

Picture of the DayThe True Measure
Acrylic on broken digital scale.

I somehow see faces in everything....

The title of this piece came from a poem I had written ten or fifteen years ago.

We measure our lives
By one True Measure,
Our proximity -- Far or Near,
Day by Day, Year by Year --
To our Heart's Treasure.

Dogs of War

Picture of the DayDogs of War
Acrylic on Kodak paper pre-mounted on Foamcore, 2' x 2'
$400 plus shipping

I'd watched a very powerful video about the training of dogs used for war, not as attack animals but for protecting troops, following trails, warning of impending attack. In WW2 and Korean War many dogs served with our armed forces. The documentary included interviews with veterans who told stories of many dogs who saved soldiers' lives, dogs who gave their lives for the best friends, and the dogs that had to be left behind when the war ended. This picture attempts to capture the haunted feeling I was left with as I reflected on the dogs of war.

D 71

Picture of the DayD 71
Acrylic on canvas paper, 14" x 18"
$300

Coming up with new images of Dylan is relatively easy. Coming up with titles to differentiate them is a bit more challenging. I called this one D 71 for no particular reason other than it deemed the name of the piece after I did it. The piece is currently framed and appeared in my Dylan Daze display at the Superior Library in January.
