A Little Schnockered

Picture of the Day

A Little Schnockered
Ink on wash, 10" x 13"
$195 plus S&H

This was created as part of a series in which an acrylic wash was laid down and permitted to dry, and then images were drawn a few days later with brush and ink. I love the effect. This piece might go well in a series with Trouble and Another Fine Expression.

Tangled Up In Blue

Picture of the Day

Tangled Up In Blue
Acrylic on canvas paper, 16" x 20"
$400, unframed

Based on a frame from Martin Scorcese's Dylan documentary, No Direction Home. The title of the piece may not be suitable since the song Tangled Up In Blue is from the 70's and this painting is of a more youthful Dylan during the early to mid-60's.

This particular reproduction of the painting is not as accurate as some of the others on the site. Below is a photo showing part of the image in my January display called Dylan Daze at the Superior library. If interested, I will take several photos of the painting for you to get a better sense of its quality.

Blown Away
Mixed media on newsprint, 18" x 24"

Intense expressionistic face in mixed media on paper. Please note that the lower left corner is torn off. This is a one of a kind original created within the past three or four years. I love the colors in this one.

D 66

Picture of the Day

D 66
Mixed media on stretched canvas, 18" x 24"
$450, unframed

This is another in my series of paintings of Bob Dylan. The portrait is painted in acrylic with sections of his clothing and the background drawn with pastels. The finish is a gloss over most, but not all, of the surface.

From my youth I have been fascinated with faces and the effect of harsh lighting with dark shadows. This theme is in some of my very earliest paintings 35 years ago and it continues here to this day. D 66 was an arbitrary title, the D being a reference to Mr. Dylan. Painted in autumn 2009.

Shipping & Handling $50 unless delivered locally at no charge.

Clarity

Picture of the Day

Clarity
Ink on slightly textured Nekoosa paper, 13"x20"
$295 plus S&H

Please note that the shadows in the corner of this photo are due to the camera and photographer. The original is a clean black on pristine white. The larger size makes for a strong and engaging piece in many settings.

The Man Who Knew Too Much

Picture of the Day

The Man Who Knew Too Much
Acrylic on stretched canvas, 18" x 24"
$450 unframed, plus S&H

I started with a background and added layers.
The colors are laid on thinly to create what I believe is a striking effect.

Street Legal

Picture of the Day

Street Legal
8" x 10", ink on slightly textured Nekoosa paper
$150

Inspired by the cover shot on Dylan's 1978 Street Legal album. The cross in the center of his face anticipates the new direction he took with his next studio album the following year, Slow Train Coming.

Rock Star

Picture of the Day

Rock Star
Acrylic on Masonite, 16"x20"
$500

I had done a set of paintings based on different images of Dylan from his various albums and life stages. If you've ever gone to hear Dylan, you know that he likes to rock. (Check out his Real Live CD where he cranks it up from the opening number, then lets it unwind only to conclude with an encore that includes Carlos Santana.) Hence, the title of this piece is called Rock Star, loosely based on cover image from his Greatest Hits Volume 3. The painting itself is on quarter-inch Masonite, and has a gloss finish.

Blue Van Gogh

Picture of the Day

Blue Van GoghOriginal painting, acrylic on paper, 13” x 16”; framed $1952.00
Limited edition giclee prints: $195.20
Set of 50.
This is one of my favorite recent works. And the scan by CPI Imaging in Duluth is phenomenal in the way it captures the 3-Dimensionality of the original. It looks very nice framed in most settings.

Another Fine Expression

Picture of the Day

Another Fine Expression
Ink on wash, Nekoosa paper, 10" x 13"
$195.00, plus S&H

I've done a whole series of these in which I paint a wash background then draw over it when it has dried. The brush and ink techniques I've been developing can create results that are quite exciting. This is one example.

Picture of the Day

A Korean Girl
Acrylic on canvas paper, 18" x 14"
$200

I painted this in November, 2009. The background gave me ideas for many future pieces. Both on my blog and in my art I find myself increasingly attracted to international themes.

As Tears Go By

Picture of the Day

As Tears Go By
Ink on paper, 8" x 11"
$150 unframed, plus S&H

Last winter I began a series of drawing using brush and ink. In many ways it was a breakthrough period as I extended my typical line drawings into a new dimensionality that proved so expressive.

Please note that the reproduction here has an off-white bluish cast due to the digital reproduction and the original is strictly black and white. It would make a nice piece as a stand alone or with a small collection of faces of this style.
