Lincoln in Black and White

Picture of the DayLincoln in Black and White
Acrylic on black foamcore, 18" x 24"

This piece is even more interesting when contrasted with the one below which is based on the same photograph of the former president, but is painted with black on off-white. The above picture is painted with white paint on a black surface.

Lincoln III

Picture of the Day

Lincoln III
Mixed media on masonite, 24' x 36"
$900 plus S&H

Years ago I painted a small picture which I called Blue Lincoln. His easily recognizable face carries some symbolic weight as well as an emotional resonance. Lincoln, in my own personal iconographic way, represents civil war. Each of us has our own personal battles that threaten to tear us apart. Lincoln managed to resolve these in our national "story" and in our personal stories we likewise need something heroic to give us the necessary resolve to finish the war, whatever it is.
This primarily acrylic portrait was painted in 2009.
