Own a Van Gogh for Under $200

"Blue Van Gogh" 13"x 16" Acrylic on paper
Yesterday I had lunch with a friend who said he and his wife had just returned from a whirlwind vacation in Washington D.C.  The weather was perfect -- sunny and 70's -- for strolling about the expansive Washington Mall that spreads from the Capitol to the Lincoln Memorial. It's impossible to see everything in the two days they had for sightseeing, but they enjoyed everything they were able to leisurely take in, including lunch in the Sculpture Garden and what they had time for in the National Gallery.

My friend was thrilled to share how he saw Van Gogh's "Self-Portrait" there. I noted that Van Gogh painted nearly three dozen self-portraits, but that yes, this was a fine one. (See: Awed by Two Van Gogh Paintings in the National Gallery.) He then said that when he got home he looked into the price of that painting and saw that it was $73 million dollars.

He brought it up because he owns a print of my Blue Van Gogh portrait, which went to look at as soon as he got home from D.C.  I re-assured him that mine would never be worth that kind of money, but he thought that maybe if I cut off my ear it might be worth more some day.
